The immense power of being internally referenced

There I was looking at my Facebook profile page, noticing how my cover photo looked. Noticing how centered it was, how blurry or pixelated the latest picture of a Lion fro my recent Soul Safari trip that I choes to be my cover photo was. Sure I was looking for myself to be pleased with how it looked but let’s be real, there was an awareness of how it would look to the eyes of someone visiting my profile page for the first time or if a friend sees the pic, will they be inspired?

This is when I noticed my intro…

The power rests within yourself to enact any change in your life you desire.

And I smiled deep inside.

I was warmed deep in my heart, deep in my soul. You see, when I very first opened my facebook account back in 2007! Wowza. That seems like eons ago btw! Lol.  This was the very quote I put right at the top of my profile. Yup. And you know what was obvious to me?  It was true back then, it’s still true today and for sure will be true tomorrow. Then into infinity and beyond!

Just had to add that last bit of Buzz for all my Disney fans out there. 😉

You see, truth has a ring to it.

Truth pervades all time and space. When we encounter the truth it will land deeply within us. It connects much into a much deeper place within you.

AND the beautiful irony is that when you land deeply within yourself you’re now connected to the most powerful source of truth!

It’s incredible how much we all know social media tends to be externally focused, “How will this look to others?” What will others think? How will this be perceived?

I know I sure have, it’s held me back many times from sharing openly, scared of the perceptions and comments that others would bestow upon me and my sacred all meaning and defining facebook page. Lol. I say with sarcasm. What would it mean about me if others didn’t like what I posted?

Take it a step further when I began having the inkling to begin blogging.. What will people think of what I have to say? Does it even matter? Why would someone read my blog when there are a gazillion blogs out in the world!? Am I just saying the same thing everyone else is saying?

So, you know what happened? I didn’t blog. I didn’t post. And if I did post I would simply skim over what was really going on in my life because it just didn’t seem to matter. Well, guess what.. The calling is back. The calling for me to show up online blogging, posting, sharing and guiding others home to the truth of themselves is raging inside my soul now more than ever!

Why? You might ask..

Because I have been stoking my internal power. I have been curating myself and really truly living being referenced to my internal power.

And it brings me to this very blog post. This very post is my stake in the ground, my claim and promise to you to show up more, to share authentically that which is guiding me to share wisdom, truth and love with you.

You see, because when you are internally referenced you are the most outwardly influential. And when you’re externally referenced you’re internally lost.

Put in another way…

When you see your power as inside of yourself, you are externally powerful. When you see your power outside of yourself, you are inwardly powerless.

Its a Hermetic Philosophy.

The full quote from Hermetic Philosophy is…

“As within, so without, as above, so below, as the universe, so the soul.”

This philosophical perspective outlines the idea that who we are on the inside will be created in the world around us.

And this is why you may be disappointed that you are not achieving the changes in your life that you desire.

Fun fact,  While googling the reference of the hermetic principle I stumbled upon this excerpt from the bible..

2 Corinthians 4:16

“That is why we are not discouraged. Though outwardly we are wearing out, inwardly we are renewed day by day.“

16 “Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.“

See! This premise is pervasive in all sectors of the universe, common across many philosophies and religions. And still it’s not “common sense” it’s not common knowledge and wisdom we are taught, received into our hearts and most certainly do not live by!

So, what happens when you are not internally referenced?

What happens when you think you’re internally referenced? But when really you’re still living in an unconscious state of actually being externally referenced?

You will be projecting, my friend!

What is projection?

Psychology today describes Projection as:

  • Projection is the process of displacing one’s feelings onto a different person, animal, or object. The term is most commonly used to describe defensive projection—attributing one’s own unacceptable urges to another. For example, if someone continuously bullies and ridicules a peer about his insecurities, the bully might be projecting his own struggle with self-esteem onto the other person. ( Hello! Cyber bullying anyone!?)

  • Freud first reported on projection in an 1895 letter, in which he described a patient who tried to avoid confronting her feelings of shame by imagining that her neighbors were gossiping about her instead.

  • Psychologists Carl Jung and Marie-Louise von Franz later argued that projection is also used to protect against the fear of the unknown, sometimes to the projector’s detriment. Within their framework, people project archetypal ideas onto things they don’t understand as part of a natural response to the desire for a more predictable and clearly-patterned world.

  • Projecting a threatening trait onto others may be a byproduct of the mechanism that defends the ego, rather than a part of the defense itself.

You see it’s all in defense! It’s all in the quest for safety.

In order to defend your egoic sense of yourself you perpetuate a series of memories, thoughts and feelings of your past onto the present and very often into the future!

Does this sound familiar?

What will they say? What will they think? What happens if.. X,y,z.

And where does that lead you? Down the rabbit hole!!!!! feeling like crap about yourself, not doing the very thing your heart really wanted to do in favor of protecting, defending and feeling safe in the world. All ultimately… In favor of fear.

But WHAT IF?

What if you became internally referenced? What if you intimately connected to your innate wisdom, your innate power and self within?

What would you imagine yourself feeling like? Acting like? What woud you focus on in your life?

There are so many people walking on this earth who are lost, simply existing on this earth. Not living, not thriving, not alive in their very being and body. These very people are not living in their innate internal power and therefore have not been successful in creating a life they desire.

I don’t want that for you. I hope you don’t want that for you either.

If you don’t then declare to change it. Declare to learn, declare to take steps to get support in your journey to learn how to live your life TRULY in your internal power.

xoxo,

Devin
